BLUECATS REPEAT AS AREA CHAMPS
--By Brett Autry
How ‘bout those Bluecats!!! The Coleman Bluecats took their “A game” to San Angelo Friday night, and recorded
their fourth straight  Area Title by defeating the Crane Golden Cranes 33-22.
The Bluecats used a balanced offense, and their stingy,, ball-hogging defense to control the game from start to
finish.
Coleman received the opening kickoff, and impressed the crowd and the Golden Cranes with an 85 yard, 13 play
drive, culminating in an 8-yard TD run by Bronson Buzzard, giving the Bluecats a lead they would never relinquish.
Coleman scored again in the second quarter when Colton Buzzard hit Stanley Cole on a 32-yard scoring pass,
with 8:21 left in the half. The 2-point try failed and the Bluecats led 13-0.
They increased their lead when Colton Buzzard scampered 7 yards for the third touchdown of the night. The 2-
point try failed once more, and Coleman’s lead was 19-0 with just 1:54 left in the half.
But Crane got back into the game just fifty seconds later when Lloyd Chisum hit Tyler Esparza for 38 yards and a
touchdown with just 1:04 left. Daniel Padilla’s PAT was good and Crane went to the locker room at halftime trailing
19-7.
The third quarter was fairly quiet until Chisum hit Teague Esparza with a 15-yard scoring pass with 1:23 left in the
third. Padilla’s PAT was good, and Crane had narrowed the lead to 19-14.
Just as Crane felt they had gained the much needed momentum, Coleman let the air out of their balloon when
Colton Buzzard took off on a 78-yard scoring jaunt to break the Golden Cranes’ back. “True Toe” Villeda’s PAT
was true and Coleman increased their lead to 26-14.
Stanley Cole made the Golden Cranes feel even worse when he got the first of three fourth quarter interceptions,
on the next possession, sealing Crane’s doom.
The Bluecats took advantage of the turnover, when Colton hit Dalton DeLeon on a 50-yard scoring pass, with 10:
20 left in the game. Villeda’s PAT made the score 33-14.
Crane got one more score, though. The Bluecats were driving once again toward the end of the game, when they
fumbled and Justin Carrasco picked up the ball and raced 83 yards for the final score of the night.
The Bluecats rushing offense cranked back up to its mid-season form, accounting for 280 yards. Colton Buzzard
had 116 of those yards, while Brandon Worsham recorded 82, followed closely by Bronson Buzzard with 81 yards.
Colton enjoyed his best night at quarterback this season, with 185 yards on 7 completion on 12 attempts, with no
interceptions. Folks, that’s averaging 26.4 yards per completion....very impressive! The defense played very well,
allowing only 65 rushing yards. The Golden Cranes did pass for 170 yards, but they also suffered three
interceptions, sealing their fate.
Crane ends their season at 10-2, while Coleman, also 10-2, will face state-ranked Canadian Saturday at 3 p.m. in
Wolfforth.
