BLUECATS MAKE PLAYOFFS WITH WIN OVER JIM NED
--By Brett Autry
Fans have been wondering the last two games, “What has happened to our powerful Bluecat offense?” It took
one half Friday night for them to find out. It is still there, just waiting to erupt once more.
The Bluecat offense came alive in the third quarter scoring 21 unanswered points, and then added 14 more in
the final stanza on the way to a 45-20 victory over Jim Ned there Friday night.
There was no scoring in the first quarter, in what looked like what was going to be a defensive struggle.
The Bluecats struck first when Colton Buzzard hit Dalton DeLeon with a 20-yard scoring pass at the 6:14 mark in
the second quarter. Oscar “True Toe” Villeda’s PAT was good and Coleman led 7-0.
Jim Ned, though, came right back scoring on a 63-yard run by Jordan Coffman with just 3:00 left in the half.
Frankie Rohr’s PAT was good for a 7-7 game.
The Bluecats gained the halftime lead, and the momentum when “True Toe” Villeda booted a 21-yard field goal
with 2:30 left, giving Coleman a 10-7 halftime lead.
Coach Buzzard must have given a heckuva pep talk at halftime, as the Bluecats came out of the locker room
“fired up”, and lo and behold, the floodgates were opened and out poured the points.
C. Buzzard started the scoring with a 16-yard scamper at the 6:34 mark of the third. Villeda’s boot was good for a
17-7 lead.
Two and a half minutes later, Buzzard hit Jamal Agbor for a 2-yard scoring strike. True Toe’s PAT made the
score 24-7 with 4:15 left in the third.
Brandon Worsham (it’s good to hear his name again), got the next touchdown on a 3-yard run with only 10 ticks
left on the clock in the third. Villeda’s PAT was good again for a 31-7 lead.
The Indians cut the lead to 31-13 when Joseph Mayfield scored on a 2-yard run at the 10:47 mark of the fourth.
The PAT failed. Colton Buzzard said, “You shouldn’t have done that”, and broke off
a 52-yard just ten seconds later. Villeda’s PAT was true extending the lead to 38-13 with 10:37 left in the game.
Things went sort of dormant for a while, until Buzzard hit DeLeon on another scoring pass, this one from 8 yards
out. Villeda’s last PAT of the evening made the score 45-13.
One thing you can say about the Jim Ned Indians...there is no quit in them. Even though theyu were down 34
points, they fought until the end, scoring the last touchdown of the night on a 1-yard Mayfield run with just one
second left in the game. Rohr’s final kick of the season was good, and final score read Coleman 45, Jim Ned 20.
The Bluecats had another amazing night in the rushing department. Bronson Buzzard scorched Jim Ned for 212
yards on 26 carries, while brother Colton lit ‘em up with 144 yards on 11 carries.
Conton had another good night passing, going 8 of 12 for 109 yards and three touchdowns, suffering one
interception.
Dalton DeLeon led all receiver with six catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns, while Edington had one catch
for 35 yards, and Agbor had the one catch for 2 yards and a touchdown.
Coleman will now face Haskell, also 8-2 in Cisco, Saturday at 7 p.m. for the Bi-District title.
