Bluecats Defrost Blizzards, 49-14
By Brett Autry
The Coleman Bluecats traveled to Winters Friday evening and returned home the victor, after applying their “hot
hand” against the Blizzards, surpassing 40 points for the second straight game.
The game, though, looked like anything but a blowout in the beginning. On Coleman’s first series,
Winters intercepted the ball and took over possession at the Bluecat 12. Bergman then hit Perez from eight yards
out for the initial touchdown of the game. Medina’s PAT was good and the Blizzards led 7-0 early in the game.
Coleman came right back on their next series, driving eighty yards in eight plays, with Colton Buzzard getting the
score on a 32-yard run with 6:41 left in the quarter. Villeda’s PAT was good and the
score was tied at 7-7.
Winters was forced to punt their next series, thanks in part to a big sack by J.D. Crowder, giving the Cats the ball
back at their own 40.
Brandon Worsham started things off right with a 20-yard scamper. After a costly Winters penalty that
awarded the Cats another first down, Bronson Buzzard joined his brother in the scoring column with a 5-yardrun
for a touchdown. “Golden Toe” Villeda’s PAT was true, and Coleman led 14-7.
Jamal Agbor and his brother N’Difone stopped the Blizzards next attempted drive with two sacks, forcing another
punt.
Coleman started the second quarter with the ball at their own 34. The Bluecats then went to the air, with C.
Buzzard hitting Worsham on a forty one yard pass, and then an eighteen yard pass from Colton to Dalton
DeLeon. Worsham got the resulting TD on a 2-yard TD run. Villeda’s aim was good again and the Cats led 21-7.
Bronson Buzzard ended Winters next drive with an interception, setting up the Bluecats with good field position.
Colton busted loose on a 22-yard scoring run, and with Villeda’s PAT the Cats led 28-7 with 6:29 left in the half.
The Blizzards fumbled on their next possession with Coleman recovering. Bronson had a 20-yard run to set up a
pass from Colton to DeLeon for a 22-yard score. It is needless to add that Villeda’s kick was good and Coleman
led 35-7 at halftime.
The second half started with another turnover for the Blizzards, as Glen Edington intercepted a Bergman pass
and returned it 22 yards for the touchdown. “Golden Toe” was golden again and Coleman led, 42-7, with only 59
ticks gone in the third quarter.
Winters used a turnover to score next. Coleman was forced to punt, and the Blizzards blocked the attempt,
getting the ball on the Bluecat 20. Three plays later they were in the end zone on Justin Medina’s 9-yard scamper.
The PAT was good and the score read 42-14.
The final score came with 10:20 left in the game, when Worsham broke loose and rumbled 86 yards for
another Bluecat touchdown. Villeda was perfect for the night, going 7 of 7 on PATs, making the score 49-14.
Worsham intercepted Bergman on the next series to end a Blizzard drive, and the game ended shortly thereafter.
The Bluecats were impressive on offense once again, gaining 304 yards on the ground and adding 132 through
the airways, while the Coleman “D” only allowed 114 total yards on the night, and registering four interceptions.
An altogether good night for the state-ranked Bluecats.
The Buzzards bothers led the Bluecats in rushing with Bronson having 168, and Colton registering 71.
Dalton DeLeon was the premier receiver of the game having eight receptions for 65 yards on the night.
Next week is homecoming, and they will face the Rotan Yellowhammers.
